Halloween

As a kid, halloween was always my favorite. What kid wouldn't love walking around and getting a bag full of candy? I loved dressing up for halloween too. Every single year my whole family would go out walking around my neighborhood for trick or treat. I remember the smell of halloween. It always smelled like leaves and the smell of all my candy combined. The smell of chocolate candy mixed with fruity candy. I remember picking out all the candy I didn't like and trading with my brother and sister. My mom used to not let us eat anything until she went through all of our candy, throwing away the pieces that were part way open or looked as if they had been messed with. She would never let us eat anything that was homemade, such as the homemade popcorn balls. I remember when I realized I was too old to go trick or treating so I would just walk around with my family and younger brother and sister. I miss those days. To this day I still love dressing up for halloween! I have done it every single year since I was tiny. Some of my favorite past time costumes were: a gypsy in kingergarden, a witch in 3rd grade, a baby in 5th grade, freshman year I was a rabbit, and last year I was mother nature. I think halloween is one reason why Fall is my favorite season.

Changing Wright State

Living on campus seems to be extremely helpful when it comes to Wright State. Commuters are always complaining about how they cannot find any parking on campus. Sometimes they have to park way down in lot 20, which would be a hassle. At first the dorms didn't seem that far away from campus but now as it is getting colder that walk from Pine Hall to campus is getting longer and longer. In the beginning  of school when it was nice out, that walk was great. I am not looking forward to the snow because I know I will be walking to class in it. So if i could change one thing I would want the dorms to be a little bit closer to campus. Also, I hated having to park way down in lot 20. I couldn't just get in my car and go. I had to wait for the shuttle to come by and catch that. And if you were out late at night you might as well just hang it up. I finally got sick of that and went and got a parking pass for the woods. I didn't know it, but if you have a job that requires you to work late you can purchase a parking pass for the woods for $70, so I did that as soon as I found out about that.

Process of Revision

My original drafts were not so good. I did not feel very confident in them at all. After having some classmates make some suggestions, on top of some things that I noticed needed some changing, I felt much more confident in my writings. I really like the drafting process that we have. At first I didn't think it was going to help much but I got a lot of help out of the drafting process. It is definitely making a difference in my writing. I am starting to realize what needs fixed before I even get to the drafting process. The only difficulty I had at the beginning was helping others revise their papers. I felt that I did not have the abilities to help someone else on their paper when my paper was full of flaws. With time that got a little better and I feel more confident in helping someone out now.

Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec

I chose a picture of two individuals, a younger man and a younger lady, lying in bed kissing. They seem to have no clothes on and the blankets are pulled over them and their arms are wrapped around one another. While looking for a picture I noticed that a lot of his pictures were of people lying in bed or kissing. The purpose of this picture is to show a couple in bed together. It could be that he is trying to represent love. Maybe this painter had many partners in which is he got into bed with or maybe he just liked painting that setting in particular. The audience that this would attract is probably the younger generation of his time. In my opinion I think that this painting would attract younger women rather than men or older individuals. The genre of this work is obviously a painting.  I am not too sure what the author’s stance on this painting was. I know that he had several paintings of couples kissing or lying in bed so maybe he was promiscuous or maybe they were to represent him and his loved one. It could be that he longed for a woman in his life. It could mean several things.

Televison

In some ways I can agree with this statement and in other ways I can disagree with this statement. I think that there are certain things on T.V. that children do not need to be watching. Children are so impressionable and what they watch could have a pretty big impact on how they act and how they think. For example MTV is not a good channel for a younger kid to be watching. There are things on that channel that kids do not to be aware of at a young age. There are also other channels that would just be damaging to a child and their learning. On the other hand there are shows on T.V. that are not harmful to children at all. Nickelodeon is a channel that would not be so harsh on a child’s learning and impression. There are some T.V. shows that get the children to interact and learn a little bit too. My little sister knew how to count to 10 in Spanish by the age of 7 just by watching Dora the Explorer. Television in general can harm someone if all they do or want to do is sit around and watch it. The children need to know when it is a good time to watch T.V. and when there are better things to do.

Ads

Advertising as I see it is not very strong. I am not one to fall into the traps of advertisers. A tall beautiful skinny girl is not going to persuade me to go buy a pair of shoes or perfume. Advertisers do a great job at catching peoples’ eyes though. I think that advertisers try too hard to reach out to the audience. They can sometimes be offensive or make us feel as if we are not pretty enough or skinny enough.  I hate how alcohol and cigarette ads, two things that are not good for your health, always have ads with very attractive healthy looking people in them.  It is like they are trying to tell us that if we drink that beer or smoke this brand of cigarettes we will look and feel like the people in their ads. That to me is wrong and very deceiving. I know that advertisers are only doing their jobs to sell their products but sometimes it gets a little over board. Personally I think that awareness ads are the best out of all of them. They bring out the truth in products such as cigarettes and alcohol.

Home Sweet Home

I can honestly say that Wright State was on my “no way” lost when I first started looking into schools. Wright State was like Tecumseh University. I never really thought of Wright State as an option. University of Dayton was my first love. I wanted to stay close to home because I am so close to my family and I get homesick really easily. So long story short, obviously UD did not work out and I was running short on time and Wright State was one of the only other colleges I had applied for. So I decided to actually take a tour of the school because I really had no other choice. So I scheduled a tour. When I got here it was so much bigger than I thought it was. Wright State was a local college that I always thought was small, but anyways it was very large. At the time the main thing I wanted to see was the dorms because I am very picky about bathrooms. That is when I was informed that they had single dorms where you only shared a bathroom with one other person and I liked it more as the tour went on. By the time the tour was over I was sold. I wanted to move in that day. They had the guidance counselor program that I had wanted to get into and that was definitely a plus. I hear all my friends complain about certain things that they dislike about where they are going and I honestly have nothing to complain about right now. It has everything I wanted from the right bathroom to my major.
